Kristen Finlayson On Indigos

Kristen Finlayson’s writings on indigos, which helped me so much at one point, have almost all disappeared from the internet. I have compiled them here so that they may go on helping people. Some of these tidbits are from my correspondence with her, edited to remove more personal stuff. I can’t reach her anymore to ask her for permission, but I believe that she would be fine with it, as it is serving a positive purpose.

Indigo Children Part I

Indigo Children have a special place in my heart. As a former psychotherapist I’ve worked with many indigo children but due to ethical confines was not able to address this trait directly. Indigo children have been around for generations but started to come in bigger groups since the 1970′s.

I am an indigo child as is my brother, father, grandmother, etc. The uniqueness of these people presents a great challenge in their lives and often leads to a crossroad. They can either use their gifts towards the light or towards darkness.

I believe the teenagers who committed the Columbine tragedy were indigo children who were deeply misunderstood. Indigo children are often depressed, anxious, sensitive to sound, light, too many people. It is my personal belief that those born on the spectrum of Autism are Indigo if not Crystal Children.

It seems that people judge Indigos based on their behavior (rebellious, testing limits, risk-taking) and/or appearance and do not take the time to know who they truly are. They have dynamic gifts that can really alter this world for the positive…or for the negative. I like the analogy of X-Men in that they are born with gifts but how they choose to use them is largely up to them and is shaped by their personal experiences.

Indigo Children – Part II

I held the Children of a New Earth meetup this Saturday. This is the group that I’ve been guided to begin and focuses on helping Indigo and Crystal Children discover their abilities and understand who they are. It appears as though part of my path includes working with Indigo children who many are actually adults. In addition to this group I met two other Indigo’s today at a separate meetup group. I think the thing that strikes me is that most Indigos do not know they are Indigos nor do they understand, or maybe have never labeled, their abilities. An important aspect of whether or not Indigos struggle is the exposure to metaphysics in their life growing up. If the family environment or culture does not allow for such a discussion or experience great pain and personal misunderstand can occur. In today’s meeting an Indigo who was very clearly an intuitive stated, “I don’t think I’m psychic”. And in the same paragraph stated several things that intuitives or “psychics” have/are. I think these things are signs that I need to continue my focus on Indigos and assisting them on their path.

Indigo Children are people whom many are no longer children and contain a soul that has evolved over many lifetimes to become of a higher state. Indigos are often called “old souls” because they are. According to Indigo theory, Indigo Children began entering this planet influx around the 1970s although many Indigos are in their 50s and beyond. Today the majority of children are Indigos. Based on what I heard during the event with Sri Ram Kaa and Kira Raa I feel that the souls that were lining up to be a part of the shift of 2012 were the Indigos or older souls so that they may help in ensuring this shift occurs in a positive way. They are here to uplift the planet and raise the vibrations of all of us. There are several traits that you can see in an Indigo. Some are from previous authors and others are from my own observations in working with adolescents.

  • Question authority. This rebellion may be quiet and expressed as being very stubborn and “not listening” or extreme into oppositional and defiant behavior.
  • Very sensitive. This is seen in most senses but more so with regard to emotional sensitivity. The term “Emo” is popular slang now to describe someone who is “EMOtional” to a non-conventional level. Indigos may have once or currently are cutters and many Indigos had/have suicidal thoughts and feelings. But they often feel the pain and feelings of others and being in public places is difficult. Indigos will also have difficulty with extended periods of loud sounds like concerts or even movies. This does not seem to apply to personal listening like in a car, room or headphones.
  • Clear Sight. Indigos are naturally able to see beyond a person’s exterior and see the truth. They are natural truth seers in all aspects and have a difficult time being a part of the illusion. This means they do not act inauthentically and if they do it causes discomfort. They do not do well in occupations that require schmoozing and have a great disdain for small talk. Their relationships are deep and meaningful with other authentic people. They are less likely to place value onto fashion and material things.
  • Depression is common. This seems separate from being emotionally sensitive. The depression seems to stem from not actualizing their personal power and not having a connection with other Indigos. When their power is not cultivated and they are not in contact with others like themselves a significant level of loneliness and depression occurs. They are aware of the significance of their purpose in this lifetime but they have no idea what to do with it or even what it is about. They feel strange and misunderstood.
  • Do not do well in systems. Systems do not make sense to Indigos and if the rules do not make sense they will not follow them and will actively work to break down any system that does not serve an authentic purpose. This includes school. The bold Indigos will be the ones actively questioning an administrator or teacher. They will be holding personal or public protests against an injustice in the system. The quiet ones will be suffering through.
  • High School is difficult for Indigos. Many Indigos have a very difficult in high school. The lucky ones are invisible as a means to survive the unlucky ones are bullied. Indigos are different and have a really hard time hiding it as it would mean being inauthentic which Indigos cannot do for very long. High school is all about being inauthentic and putting on an appearance despite the truth underneath. Indigos cannot play this game and high school is incredibly torturous for many.
  • Feeling alien. Some Indigos actually feel like they are from another planet others feel that the families they are born in and/or where they were born does not feel right. They will naturally distance themselves from the families and/or hometowns and relocate to an area that feels more like home. They may also re-create families with friends that feel more natural. They are the black sheep of where they live and/or of their family which can cause a great deal of emotional pain as the other family members or community members will act out their misunderstanding towards them. Indigos are natural survivors so they will make changes soon after they turn 18.
  • Patience is not an Indigo virtue. Waiting in line, traffic, slow results, “dumb” people are especially frustrating to Indigos and being understanding of these givens in life also does not come easily.
  • Vocal and opinionated. Being old souls, Indigos are born knowing exactly what they want and even how to do it. They do not easily rely on others for help and will frustrate themselves or give up before asking for help. They are often open about what they believe and their beliefs are very strong. You will see this even in Indigo babies.
  • Psychic/Intuitive. The most important trait of an Indigo is that they have intuitive/empathic/clairvoyant/medium abilities. This is the reason they are here and they will often have scary and disturbing experiences if they do not have access to someone who knows how to properly guide them.

I’m sure this list could continue but gives you a very good overview of my understanding and experience of Indigo Children. Also remember that many Indigo Children are now adults so the “Children” label does not quite fit for all Indigos. Below is a video from ABC News regarding Indigo Children.

Indigo Children Q&A

Recently, I’ve gotten a lot of interest and questions from those recently discovering that they too are Indigo Adults. Last year I wrote more in depth about what and who an Indigo Child/Adult is. Many of these questions are incredibly common and don’t seem to be addressed in other places. So I thought I would devote this blog post to answering those questions.

Q: I seem to have many of the qualities of an Indigo, now what? What do I do with it?

Indigo’s are simply people who were born at a higher vibration than the generation before. So we feel, very starkly, the contrast from the previous generation to this one. Many of us are angels, guides, fairies, Masters, etc born into a human body. Because of this and the resulting amnesia from incarnating we have a lot of issues being on Earth and then not knowing why we feel so powerful when everyone around us treats us otherwise. So what you do with your amazing energy is up to you. The overall purpose is to help those who are not like us. Many Indigo’s have a propensity to separate and isolate “us” from “them” but this is the opposite of what the higher energies want us to do. Unfortunately, not many sources outside of yourself can tell you exactly what you are supposed to be doing. In the process of discovering your purpose you discover your “soul self” or who your higher energy is (guide, angel, etc). So this is a bit of a lonely journey of the soul. Some people can tell you that you are supposed to be a healer or that you are an Earth Angel but not much beyond that. That is because the guides want us to discover this for ourselves. In doing this we then can help others in the process of discovering themselves. Plus, as Indigo’s we don’t like people telling us what to do…so you wouldn’t really listen if someone did give you the answer anyway.

Q: I want to learn more but can’t seem to find any more information. Why not?

There is not a lot of information out there beyond the characteristics. That is because the path of the Indigo is unique even though we exhibit similar characteristics. It would be like saying all people of Italian descent have one purpose. Being Indigo is more of a culture than anything else. We come from other galaxies or dimensions so we all struggle through the human and Earthly experience in a similar way. We are all immigrants but now that we are here our paths are as unique as the bodies we were given. There really is no road map once we get to this planet. The guides ask us to find our intuition and develop a relationship with them individually rather than depending on others for information. Since each connection and purpose is unique following another’s word or theory will lead us astray. The answers will be given to you directly from the guides. Strengthen your relationship with them and you will be on your way.

Q: I feel this urge this power or this need to do something but I don’t know what.

This is incredibly common in Indigo’s and is probably one of the most defining characteristics in my opinion. Since we are from such higher energies and we were incarnated for a very specific purpose then we have an incredibly amount of power and drive stored up inside of us. Added on top of that a feeling of limitation by our bodies and minds since we are not used to dealing with these normally. But there is a time and process when this is expressed and opened within us. For some our purposes are not now, soon, but not now. The feeling inside can be painful and frustrating. Some things that help are creative pursuits such as art, music, even raising children. This is because our job here is to create a new world which is the highest form of creation. Being creative in more “mundane” ways can help tremendously. Another thing that is really important is to make peace with being here. That means get involved with life instead of waiting for that purpose to arrive. Make friends, have fun, and drop your anchor. You have to be committed to being here to start your purpose.

Q: What can I do with the label “Indigo”?

Nothing really. Indigo helps people identify and validate their feelings and experiences. It helps Indigo’s feel like less than a freak and then you can go out and meet others just like you. It also helps to know that there is a reason you are here and a purpose to be fulfilled. Once that happens the “job” of knowing you are an Indigo is done. Drop the label and then move onto discovering who you really are on a soul level, connect to your guides and begin discovering, then living your purpose. But sticking to the label and culture of Indigo can really limit your power. It can also begin the process of separating yourself from others who are seeming non-Indigo’s which runs counter to your purpose being here. So it really is important to just move on knowing that you are special and there is a reason you struggle so much just being in your own skin.

There are so many other questions about what it is like or what it means to be an Indigo Child/Adult. Please feel free to post them in the comments section and I would love to add them to this article.

On Anger

The anger is deep seated and separate from the dark feelings/thoughts. The dark stuff is from past lives of doing horrible things (hence the holding back our power in this lifetime).

The anger is because of our uniqueness in a world and society that is literally like living in a septic tank. We are the kings and queens, used to flying, and feeling pure unimaginable love. Communicating telepathically and being invincible. So we are like fallen angels here but the kicker is that we fought to be here on a soul level. When we came into human form we forgot everything while still keeping the essence of who we are on a soul level. So we still feel powerful and important but this shitty world and everyone in it tells us otherwise. Here we are the freaks and the outcasts. Like changing a school where we were popular, happy, and loved to where we are being bullied and pushed aside.

To get rid of both the darkness you have to start remembering your past lives and the circumstances around it and forgive yourself. I think we all did some pretty bad stuff learning how to use our power appropriately.

To get rid of the anger, you have to open yourself up to the universal love and stop trying to fill your needs down here. That does not mean do not connect to people (indigos or otherwise) here as that is vital but we have such deeper esoteric needs than others. Filling yourself with the love, acceptance, etc from the universe rather than from people is key. A good book that can help is “Akashic Records” by Linda Howe. But you must fill yourself up first before giving or asking anything from the people here, indigo or not. Then you will remember who you are on a soul level, realize your purpose, and begin to release the anger as everything will then make much more sense to you.

How I began to remember was I would look into my eyes in the mirror and just gaze into them for a period of time. Then I would start to think to myself “I remember” “I remember”. Slowly (over days, weeks, etc) you will get flashes like healer, angel, guide, oracle, warrior, etc.

Another thing that really helps is if you get that ringing frequency in your ears. That sound in the total silence. When you are still and quiet just listen to it and focus on it. That is a healing frequency that is working towards opening your mind/brain/and abilities.

Lastly, being attuned to Reiki changed my life. It propelled me into this world like a rocket. The veils lifted and everything was so clear. It clears out all the negative stuff in such a powerful way.

Earth angels do get support but because they forget so much and focus on the muck that is here instead of remembering. The thing with help is that you 1) have to ask for it. They cannot help unless you ask and 2) you have to receive it. Indigos are martyrs and fall into the victim role too easily. You have to get fed up and be willing to do anything to change things. Oh, and Indigos have a hard time successfully committing suicide. Of course many succeed but they have a much higher percentage of “failed” attempts. But they want us to succeed but we tie their hands in a lot of ways.

On Isolation

Indigos are congregating in certain spots to fulfill their purpose. We are not entirely sure what that is just yet beyond generalities (speakers, leaders, healers, etc) but people are feeling compelled toward specific geographic locations. You also have Indigos who are not where they should be feeling very isolated. If you know indigos who do not feel like they fit in where they live it is a sign it is time for them to move. But it is various locations around the world, not just one. Meetup.com has Indigo groups in US locations. I’m finding though people in general are not getting out to groups or meetups though. There is a huge issue with people isolating right now.

Kristen’s Indigo Characteristics Article On SelfGrowth.com (Similar To Indigo Children Part II)

I’ve recently been told by my guides to focus my work on helping Indigo’s find their way to the light. This includes helping Indigo’s identify who they are and then help them develop their gifts.
