Cake Batter Story

Me and Marlem, an employee at the three-person restaurant I work at, were talking. I say “employee”. She’s an employee, but I’m not. She earns a steady salary, and works 9 to 5, because that’s how she needs things to work. Me and Cristian, however, split the rest of the earnings at the end of the month and work as much as we need to/feel like. Pretty nice setup.

Anyway, I was spooning cake batter into a tin, and looking her in the eyes with a really weird expression while dropping the stuff from a great height.

She said, “Why are you such a child? Don’t do that!”

I said, “Why not? If I enjoy playing and it doesn’t hurt anybody, why shouldn’t I?”

“Because food is not a game!”

“Yes it is,” I said. “If I play it like a game, it’s a game.”

And what could she say to that!
